Monsieur Philippe "en femme"

Louis XIV’s brother, Philippe I, Duke of Orléans, was dressed by his mother, Queen Anne, as a girl. It is said that she deliberately effeminized him to keep him from becoming a threat to his brother’s throne.

From THE BASTARD PRINCE OF VERSAILLES:

“Louis was confused. His uncle, hanging on to the chevalier’s arm, wore makeup, a magnificent gown, high heels, and a powdered wig with ribbons. His dazzling rings and bracelets were as remarkable as the pungent odor of his perfume. All the while, his aunt Elizabeth looked more like a valet de chambre in a gown. Monsieur is more Madame and Madame is more Monsieur, he thought.”
